Development Operations Manager

Job Title: Development Operations Manager 

Reports to:  Senior Director of Development 

Schedule:  40 hours per week  

Classification: Full-time regular employee, salaried, exempt 

Compensation: $46,000 - $52,000 / year 
 

Position Overview 

Discovery Museum in Acton, MA is seeking a Development Operations Manager who will optimize the operations that are crucial in our small yet highly successful fundraising office, primarily through the management of the development database and event management. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to be a part of a collegial 4-person team that makes a difference in our community. The successful candidate will thrive on attention to detail, be able to work with and understand data, be comfortable with event management, and have strong project management skills.      

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage all operational aspects of the development office, including gift processing, data management and reporting 

  • Be the primary manager of the development office database and other third-party databases for fundraising events by maintaining high-quality data standards 

  • Prepare monthly fundraising reports, the annual Report of Generosity, and other development materials as needed 

  • Generate donor lists and utilize data analysis to provide recommendations around fundraising programs, segmentation, appeals, etc.  

  • Support the Senior Director of Development with scheduling donor meetings, preparing donor profiles, and conducting donor research 

  • Oversee logistics for all development events, including donor receptions, annual fundraising galas, and stewardship events; collaborate with Senior Director of Development on design and strategy 

  • Oversee logistics for fundraising appeals; collaborate with Senior Director of Development on design and strategy 

  • Manage sponsorship program, including solicitation, recognition and stewardship 

  • Collaborate with Finance Office to reconcile gift recording between development office and finance office 

  • Maintain an organized and welcoming office environment  

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications and Requirements 

  • A solid comfort working with databases, data, and Excel 

  • Demonstrated ability to plan projects and then implement them to success 

  • A commitment to ethical behavior 

  • Experience with Altru / Raiser’s Edge is a plus 

  • Clear and professional oral and written communications skills are essential 

  • Discretion in the handling of confidential information 

  • All positions at Discovery Museum require a satisfactory Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check and proof of COVID-19 vaccination (unless eligible for a religious or medical exemption) before beginning employment. 

  Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs, constantly operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, and lift up to 25 lbs 

  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends for special events
